When I started this little book neither did I realize the amazing and interesting story it held of Betsy and her life experiences. Good on giving a little history - my only complaint is that, like many books, is skips the Welsh who were also Celts . Even though the "glass ceiling" has finally been broken for many women, stories of discrimination are still plentiful. I recommend it to everyone. Roth has chosen in this novel to trace the deterioration of the Empire through one noble family's three generations.
